THE WAKE

In September of 2017, we hosted “The Wake.” An invite-only event where strangers were not welcome. To know what precisely conspired you would’ve needed to be there.

The term “Wake” can mean a few things all related to our intentions. It can represent a social gathering associated with death, usually held before a funeral. A social rite that highlights the idea that “a loss” is of one of a social group and affects that group as a whole. Both of those were applicable. However, we were more interested in the representation of “rising from the state of sleep,” and referring to aftermath and consequences.

There is great gratitude to those who were willing to make the trip out and to be apart of nothing, with no promises of anything in return. The details of the weekend were left vague and uninformed by design and necessity. We wanted those interested and committed for the right reasons.
